Saab 900 Turbo: The car that shone the most at the Oscars

Film ‘Drive My Car’ won the award for best international film

The big winner of the best international film category at the 2022 Oscars was “Drive My Car”, a production by Ryusuke Hamaguchi, with Hidetoshi Nishijima and Toko Miura in the main roles. However, the actors were not the only ones who shone in this film. Next to them was a red Saab 900 Turbo. A fundamental element in the story and that appears throughout the three hours of the film.

Saab no longer produces cars, but many models live on in the memory of many drivers. This one, in particular, was certainly missed, as it sold over a million units worldwide.

The Saab 900 Turbo was one of the most appreciated models of the brand, which hit the market at the end of the 70s. The Turbo version, which was top of the range, initially had a block with 145 hp, but later reached 175 .

It had several bodies – coupé, saloon and cabrio – and was ‘alive’ on the market for almost 20 years. The year of farewell was 1998, when Saab was already owned by the North American General Motors.

‘Drive My Car’ had already been awarded at the Cannes Festival and now took the best at the 2022 Oscars in the category of best international film, beating the other nominees: ‘Flee’, ‘Hand of God’, ‘The worst person in the world’ and ‘Lunana: a Yak in the classroom’.
